BMX track 

If your horse is likely to get upset by kids on bikes then please avoid parking close to the BMX track near Old Coach Road entrance. Any problems see Tracy or Susan H, or a committee member if neither is available.  

• The City of Swan has specifically designed and built the BMX jumps for the local youth

• The BMX jumps are for the use of BMX riders at all times

• Please do not park horse floats close to the BMX jumps

Rules & Regulations

Please refer to the GEA Risk Management Policy for additional detail.

1.

All club activities follow the general rules of Equestrian Australia (EA) which are available on the website (http://www.equestrian.org.au/rules). This includes the wearing of an approved safety helmet (as below) and riding boots (smooth soled and heeled) at all times whilst mounted.

Only those persons who are financial members of the Club (Gidgegannup Equestrian Association Inc) may ride at club events. Non-members are not permitted to ride a horse on the club grounds during a designated club event.

Member Dangerous Activity Acknowledgement forms (as per the EA) must be signed prior to riding in any Club event (completing one form will cover normal club activities for the year)

GEA is an EWA-affiliated club with Public Liability Insurance through EA (Gow Gates). This insurance covers the club (committee members, ordinary members, officials, volunteers) for causing bodily injury or property damage to a THIRD PARTY whilst attending/conducting club activities. HOWEVER, it is important to note that any liability claim whilst attending a designated Club activity results in a $2,500 excess.  This excess is payable by the person held liable for the damage. 

During a club event we have exclusive use of the main showground arena, small enclosed arena, stables, club rooms, canteen and car parking area. All other areas (e.g. cross-country course, bmx track) are out of the jurisdiction of the club.

It is highly recommended that members take out separate EWA membership for personal accident and personal liability cover 24/7 for horse related activities. The form can be filled in online on the EWA website

PARKING: Horse floats MUST NOT be parked close to the club-room/canteen area for safety reasons. Spectators are permitted to park behind this building. Horse floats must be parked a sufficient distance from other floats to enable a horse to be tethered to each float and to move around without coming so close to another horse as to permit one horse to kick the other or to damage vehicles. Parking should be organised in a way that does not block the exit for others and allows access for emergency service vehicles.

Spectators attend at their own risk. To manage this risk, spectator and horse traffic should be kept separate wherever possible. Persons riding or handling a horse must be alert for the presence of members of the general public (including in particular children).

Dogs must be under control at all times. Children must be supervised at all times and are not allowed in the canteen due to health regulations. No child is allowed on a horse during a club event.

Horses must be tethered in accordance with good practice (quick-release knot or quick-release clip) or placed in secure yards/stables. Ensure horses are tied up safely and securely. Never tie a horse to a float that is not attached to a car. Horses must have an adequate water supply at all times.

10.

Horses under the age of 4 must be assessed by an instructor employed by the club and are not permitted to jump in any club activities. They may do pole classes at the Instructors discretion.

11.

All gear must be in safe condition, fit the horse and be suitable for the planned activity.

12.

All members should be aware of and show consideration towards other members who may not be confident and/or have inexperienced horses. Members are to respect and keep a safe distance from other horses during warm-up and in group lessons. If a horse is unsettled or erratic to the extent that it is affecting the safety of other riders, the member responsible for the horse is expected to remove it from the situation.

STALLIONS may only attend upon prior application and at the discretion of the Club Committee. If in attendance, stallions must be kept in float, horse truck, stable or steel yard when not being ridden to ensure safety for all horses. They may only be handled by an experienced horse person 18 years of age or over. For stallions to participate in club activities Equestrian Australia’s stallion safe practices guidelines must be followed.

STABLES & PARKING AREA: 

1. Hay is only permitted in the stables at the discretion of the committee. All hay MUST be removed from stables and breezeways. 
   
2. Please pickup your horses manure. There is a manure pile near the wash area at the back of the stables. 
   
3. If your horse is unsociable in a stall please inform the committee when you request a stable so stable allocations will allow for empty stalls next to your horse. 
   
4. All manure and hay must be picked up from around horse floats and removed or taken to the manure pile at the stable block.

15.

ARENAS: 

1. Please do not lunge your horse in the main arena while lessons are in progress, the round yard can be used for this purpose. 
   
2. You may warm-up in the main arena but please be considerate of those having a lesson. Do not ride directly around the lesson areas. Always be aware of how other horses are reacting to your presence (both in lessons and while warming up) and keep a safe distance from other horses. 
   
3. Please close the gates to the main arena as you enter or leave. 
   
4. Please do not enter or exit the grounds with your float around the main arena while lessons are in progress (i.e. DO NOT use the Toodyay Rd gate). Only the gate on Old Coach Rd should be used during rally times.
